Stephanie Williams Fallas
(Costa Rica, 1987)
ARTISTIC RESEARCH RESIDENCES
December 2019
Visual artist whose work revolves around the archive, historical resource and fiction. Her projects address different ways of inhabiting specific spaces, thinking of them as a set of overlapping times: a sort of historical and geographical strata.
She is currently working on several projects from the observation of space / nature and the link with the future of new displacements, understanding the earth as a moving space, the exploration of specialties in permanent flow in which time is connected to the environment , each land has writing signs. From ancestral cultures, observation provided a tool to interpret the world and thus modify the meanings of space. This thinking system can be understood as a place of resilience and regeneration in crisis situations.
She has exhibited individually at the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design of Costa Rica; at the University of Havana, Cuba; and in the Despacio space, in San José. She has also participated in collective exhibitions at the Arad Museum of Art, in Romania; Palais de Tokyo, in France; at the Saco Contemporary Art Festival, in Chile; Tranzitdisplay, Czech Republic; FUSO Lisbon, in Portugal; Ex-Teresa Museum Current Art, of Mexico; the X Central American Biennial of Costa Rica; the Museum of Art of the National University of Colombia; TEOR/ ética, in Costa Rica. She won first place in the eighth edition of the video creation and new digital media contest Inquieta Imagen
